Rotate and flip image

Turn an image by 90, 180 or 270 degrees and mirror it horizontally or vertically. Right angle turns do not resample, so nothing is softened.

No upload

This tool does not upload your files

The conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your files stay on your device from start to finish, there is no server copy, and nothing is stored once you leave the page. That is true for every tool on FileFlip.

About this tool

A photo that came out sideways is usually a photo whose orientation tag was lost somewhere along the way. Rotating it by a quarter turn fixes it permanently, in the pixels rather than in metadata that the next program may ignore. Mirroring is the other half of this tool: useful for scans that came through the wrong way round, and for photos taken with a front camera that flipped the image.

How to rotate image

  1. 01

    Add your images

One or many. Batches are common here, because a whole folder from one camera is usually wrong in the same direction.

  2. 02

    Choose the rotation

Rotation is clockwise. A photo lying on its right side needs 270 degrees, one lying on its left needs 90.

  3. 03

Add a mirror if you need one

Mirroring happens in the finished image's own axes, so left to right means left to right on the picture you end up looking at, whatever rotation you also picked.

  4. 04

    Convert and download

Pick the output format, then take the files one by one or as a zip.

What to watch for

Quarter turns are lossless in geometry

Only right angles are offered, because those move every pixel to an exact new position. An arbitrary angle would have to invent pixels in between and would soften the whole image.

Choose PNG to avoid recompression

The geometry is exact, but JPG and WebP still re-encode the result. Saving as PNG keeps the pixels identical to the original ones.

The orientation tag is dropped

The output is written the way it looks, with no rotation metadata. That is the point: every viewer, printer and upload form will now agree on which way up it is.

Frequently asked

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs inside your browser using code that was downloaded to your device. Your file is never sent to us or to anyone else, so there is no copy to store or leak.
Why can I not rotate by 5 degrees?
A small angle needs resampling, which softens the whole picture and leaves empty corners to fill. That is a different job from straightening a sideways photo, which is what this tool is for.
What is the difference between rotating and mirroring?
Rotating turns the picture. Mirroring reflects it, so text in the image reads backwards. If you are fixing a selfie, mirroring is usually what you want.
Can I fix a whole camera roll at once?
Yes. Add every file, set the rotation once, and download the results as a single zip.
